RAISE YOUR SPOONS! PERFORMANCE & SOUP IS BACK
Another year has almost passed, winter is upon us. In Tårnby Park Studio we celebrate the balance of our summer festival with a tempting and hyggelig plan for everyone. We share the joy of experiencing the work of talented performers from all over the world. But also, sharing a moment with our beloved community while we have a nice dinner. This is the spirit of Performance & Soup.
This year we want to turn this event into a canva. On the one hand, each Monday of December the artists will share with us their colours, perspectives, lights and shades, techniques and their points of view in their work. On the other hand, in terms of soup our kitchen will bring different recipes from cultures around the world.
Since we start the evening with cinema for children and popcorn (aaand soup of course!), you are more than welcome to bring the whole family!
The movies are animated shorts curated by our friends of Vester Vov Vov.

About the performances:
4.12 Ran Suh presents a performance that interweaves texts and practices about traditional rice cultivation with stories about community and the social position of women. In her work, Denise Lim refers to David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” and plays with situations of being lost and at the mercy of others. An attempt to create meaning in a grotesque world.
11.12 In “Courage”, Signe Vad addresses the role of the body in the context of the climate crisis and strategies of hope. “Many Wild Times” by Andreas Haglund plays with the animalistic in humans and the non-useful contrast between nature and culture. Queerness meets an ecological wildness that overrides categories.
18.12 “En suppe, der varmer sjælen op” invites the audience to make soup together. It reflects on migration, flight, politics and memory. “Do around the world” turns sport into music. The skipping rope becomes a drum kit and the starting point for a meditative live experience.

18:30 “Rice, Ritual and Spirit (solo verson)” by Ran Suh

Based on her essay <Rice, Ritual, and Spirits (2021)>* about the change in traditional rice agriculture and women’s status, this performance let the unfinished research, pieces of the text, rice goddess myth, and personal stories related to rice, community, and women penetrate a body and weave into each other.

[𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐏 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊]
𝟏𝟗.𝟑𝟎 “𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲” 𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐦  By working with Lost Highway, Denise creates a space of encounters where learning takes precedence. She aims to learn how to build her own analogue synthesizer. She works with doubles and doubling, with intensities and on edges. She finds herself lost in a sea of possibilities; Water, water everywhere, not any drop to drink. She gets from A to B to bee to be to being to come into being, to be two people at once, to forget what happened that night, to be here and there at the same time. She asks herself: What do I already know and what else do I need to know to proceed? This presentation has been mentored by Sara Hamming. Sound design is developed in consultation with madamdata soundlabs in Singapore.

18.30 “Courage” by Signe Vad “Humanity has a choice. Cooperate or perish. It is either a climate solidarity pact or a collective suicide pact” says the UN Secretary-General. I get scared! It takes courage to look into the future and accept the circumstances, with acceptance comes the opportunity to work with “strategies for hope”. COURAGE is about the soft body as a blocking element. The body that becomes a human barrier against collapse, but the body is also the tool to connect with other life. It is about the fear that becomes an alienating barrier, the fear that blocks us from connecting with each other and finding solutions together. It is about sensuality and fragility, about wanting to be here with all life and about the hope in community.

19.30 “Many wild times” by Andreas Haglund
In this choreographic project, Andreas investigates the overlaps between heterocis-normative sociability and climate collapse. The staging methods propose queer access to time and how dance can distort the binary of nature and culture. The work consists of dances that stretch and songs that loop and investigative methods to rewild dance & choreography.
Inspired by Queer theorist Jack Halberstam and Climate theorist Andreas Malm (amongst others), he learned the ways in which Queer lives are determined as degenerate and ‘against nature’. Andreas investigates how this pequeerliar social position can be an (ad)vantage point for reformulating human relations to nature. What is regenerative about the degenerated? How can dance tease regenerative practices from the body?

18.30 “A soup for warming up the soul” by David Sebastian Lopez Restrepo This performance delves into the intricate relationship between humans and food. The artist engages the audience in a collaborative effort to prepare a communal soup while initiating a conversation about various themes, including nostalgia, journeys, politics, memory, performance art, and the role of food in shaping people’s identities. Humans move in a territory, they conquer, transform the land, and adapt. The world is a tangled web of roads that have led humans to all corners. Taking food with them is part of the history of civilisations, displacements and discoveries, runaways and healings. Memory, and of course forgetfulness, and also the history of violence are linked to the food. To migrate, for whichever reason, leads us to transformation, and the food that we bring with us will also change with each step.

 PROGRAM 4.12.23 

19.30 “Do around the world” by Parini Secondo Together with Glauco Salvo and Pier Paolo Zimmermann, Parini Secondo creates a performative action and a practice of archiving that ignites places by their intrinsic and veiled acoustic characteristics through the activity of jumping rope. Gymnastic activity becomes an acoustic and visual meditative pretext. The group selects spaces that have a resonant power and creates an archive that narrates the technical progress of Parini Secondo’s jumping activity and recounts the geography of the research path through Pier Paolo’s wide, static and sensitive shots and Glauco’s delicately altered field recordings. At the end of the days of research and study, they open the performative device conceived to bring live what happens in the archive to the public, sensitising our perception to what the spaces and environments already offer.

About the artists: Denise Lim (SG/DE) is a Singaporean dancer and choreographer, currently based in Berlin. Her practice involves methods of scoring and improvising, working towards intensities that enchant and invite experimental modes of witnessing. Denise makes performances in public spaces in Berlin as part of the Club for Performance Art Gallery and graw böckler garageN. She holds a BFA in Dance and Choreography from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen, and is a recipient of the ImPulsTanz danceWEB scholarship in 2019. Denise is a member of queer feminist collective Altes Finanzamt since 2022.  Ran is a choreographer and artist-researcher in Copenhagen and Seoul. She has created multidisciplinary performances about shamanism, traditional dance, and mythology based on autoethnography. After relocating to Denmark, she engaged in a climate activism performance group, Becoming Species. She participates in intertwined movements of decentralized activism, multispecies thinking, and remembering ancestral tradition. Her current research project focuses on traditional ecological knowledge and co-mythmaking. She studied MFA in Choreography at KNUA and MA in Religious Studies at KU.

When it’s cold outside, we need warmth. We need to gather. We need artistic enrichment. Tårnby Park Studio presents high quality movies for the small ones and a good range of independent performance artists and newcomers that are connected to us in friendship. Winter comes? We answer with performance and soup! Come and enjoy the work of Boys* in Sync, Sophie Grodin & Max Morris-Doherty, Snorre Hansen, Boaz Barkan & Andreas Liebmann, Tanya Montan Rydell, Sara Hamming og Franco De Pian. Our kids-cinema program “Børnebif“ – in collaboration with VesterVoVo – contains precious movies specially kids (precise program to come). For the first time ever, our new performance club for non-professionals – Fremtidsklubben – shares its work with an audience.

Do you have kids? Come with the whole family. While you see an artistic proposal from independent performance artists, your kids watch a movie in the space aside. Side note: The movie program is for 4-6 years old kids, but we say: Also older kids will have their fun. On the three first mondays in December, Tårnby Park Studio offers again, what it best can provide: Shared time, sociality and performances.
